a bit of sky

It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.
~F. Scott Fitzgerald

It always feels like a giant step from April to May. As the days become more delectable, my urge to make healthy, summery meals kick in. One recipe that I'd like to try soon is Bean Bowls with Poached Egg by Sara Forte of Sprouted Kitchen. What are some of your favourite go-to meals during this season?

  3. I love F. Scott Fitzgerald... and that recipe sounds delicious. I eat mainly a raw root diet but lately I've started to eat eggs. I love the Sprouted Kitchen because most of her recipes I can actually make...and eat.
But I'm looking forward to fruits and vegetables from the garden. Boiled fresh potatoes with picked herbs and a garden salad is all I need to make me a happy girl. :)

I get a lot of recipes from Cannelle et Camille. She makes some beautiful summery dishes.

  5. Starting my day with this quote is so nice. Thank you, Alexandria. I would eat that bean bowl in a minute. This is super simple, but we've been loving plain ol' ripe strawberries lately. They've been so delicious. I don't want the season to end.

    1. Denise: I feel the same each year about strawberries. No sugar added either! They are good as is.

  7. what a perfect quote! i love mr. fitzgerald. :)

i've been non-stop making kale salads...chopped kale (throw some sea salt on it first, to soften the leaves), sliced grape tomatoes (to release the flavour more), celery, cucumber, cheese (cubed), hard-boiled egg (sliced), and some ham or mortadella (sliced into tiny chunks). add olive oil + red wine vinegar + pepper and it'll taste like summer!

  9. It's *finally* starting to warm up over here in England too and we are waking up in the mornings to be greeted by blue skies and sunshine.

We are totally digging on Jamie Oliver's Broccoli salad right now - it's easy and delicious: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetables-recipes/broccoli-salad

I also love pretty much everything from The Forest Feast and often head there for inspiration: http://theforestfeast.com

I've also been getting kohl rabi and beets in our organic vege box recently, and making slaw out of them which is highly tasty.

    Happy spring to you
