first signs of autumn

Lately, I'm enjoying the signs of Autumn like the feel of the air being cool and crisp, leaves slowly falling to the ground, sunlight and shadows giving a softer glow, and even the bright colourful bursts of pumpkins showing up in the neighborhoods around.  All of these things and more bring a smile to my face.

What are some of the things you like about Autumn?

  2. Oh thank you for forcing me into reminding myself the GOOD in Autumn:
It suits very well Paris, first of all.
Pumpkins of all sorts, in all sorts of dishes!
Bringing out scarves and "real" shoes and jeans.
Soups and hot chocolate, eating ice-cream and feeling as a "rebel" (haha)...
And i find there's some sort of quietness, once the frenzy of the start of a new school year is over...
I'm going to enjoy it right now!

  3. I like what you like, but we've been having rain instead. The nice thing about the autumn rain here is knowing it will make the thirsty landscape look like spring again.

  4. for us, the crystal clear blue skies and the absence of humidity, that certain "scent" of fall- almost unnameable- (but something in the air), cool breezes, golden light at sunset, the days growing shorter...and all the things you named as well... it is by far my favorite time of year.

  6. wow, it still looks quite green in your part of the world. I love the smell of autumn, and the leaves rustling in the street. the colours too, of course, but above all the smell!

  9. A belated welcome back - I am pleased you are enjoying your new neighbourhood. I think autumn is my favourite time of year - the sense that all around one things are settling down, and readying themselves for the deep winter chill. I love the light - it's somehow so soft yet illuminating - one sees things in quite a different way. And I especially love the crisp evening air you feel as dusk starts to fall... Yes I think autumn is the best season of all.

and... like Denise ! cool & crisp air is so good, soft autumn light too. sadly hardly happens in this part of France. our autumns are often misty & wet :(
i like logfires, roasted homegrown walnuts to munch, mulled cider, wool blankets, the local fair, the return of knitting sessions snuggled on the couch...

  17. autumn, this year, feels like the exciting opening of a new culinary chapter. oh, what to cook! chanterrelles, stews, cheese and sourdough plates with red wine, pear tarts, apple sauce, fig jam. and what spices and herbs to play with?

my appreciation of the golden weather has been slightly marred by a bad cold, which i hope i'm getting over soon, so i can ride my bike in the sun, or go for walks.
